PCG today announced that it has acquired Democon, a
demolition company specializing in selective and complete
building demolition services. The
new company, renamed PCI Democon, is based in Woodinville
(near Seattle), Washington.
A PCG company, Performance Abatement Services, had been
doing work with Democon for several years in the Seattle
area. Because of their great working relationship, joining
forces seemed like the best approach for them to maximize
their combined construction capabilities, enhance their
competitiveness in the market, and offer better services
and more competitive costs to their customers.
Guy Hampton, owner of Democon, started his business
in 1996 and grew the company to become a leader in the
demolition industry in the Pacific Northwest. "I
couldn't be more excited about this acquisition and
the opportunities it offers not only my employees but
our customers as well," he said. "I started
Democon with the intent to build a new company that
stood for honesty, integrity and quality. I feel that
PCF offers these same principles, and I look forward
to growing and expanding PCI Democon to be the leader
in the industry." Hampton will be the area manager
for PCI Democon.
Democon specialists remove entire buildings or selectively
strip interiors of buildings in preparation for new
construction. They have extensive experience in the
demolition of existing buildings in occupied spaces
as well as in difficult projects requiring the skills
of experienced management and field personnel. They
will continue to provide demolition services from their
current offices in Woodinville, WA, but will now offer
services to a larger customer base.
“The addition of PCI Democon to our growing list
of PCG companies will enhance our construction capabilities
at a time when we are experiencing significant growth
and expansion,” said Craig Davis, president and
CEO of PCG. “The new company will allow us to
add specialized demolition services to our specialty
contracting business and harness the valuable experience
of Democon’s demolition specialists.”

PCI has won yet another award for safety from the National
Insulation Association (NIA). NIA
announced the 2006 Theodore H. Brodie Distinguished
Safety Award winners at its 52nd Annual Convention at
the Sheraton Wild Horse Pass Resort & Spa in Phoenix,
Arizona, March 28–31, 2007. The safety award is
the NIA’s top industry honor for outstanding safety
performance. The winners will receve public acknowledgement
in NIA's Insulation Outlook and NIA News.
PCI took first place in
the Contractor, Large Company category. This
year's judges were impressed by the quality of the safety-award
appllications submitted for consideration. "We
have seen a significant improvement in the safety programs
of the applicants for the awards over the past four
years. This year's winners impressed the judges because
of their obvious commitment to safety," says Gary
Auman, member of NIA's Board of Directors and judge
for the 2006 safety awards.
The safety award was created to honor top companies
that take proactive steps to implement safe working
practices and have established oustanding safety records.
This year's winners all tied their incentive programs
to safety compliance, rather than to having no lost-tme
injuries. Judges focused on the applicants' safety programs,
as well as the results achieved as measured by injury
rate and experience modification rate data.
The judging focused on each company's safety program,
means of communication and training, and safety statement.
All active NIA members are eligible to receive the award.
The Theodore H. Brodie Distinguished Safety Award was
named after Theodore H. Brodie in recognition of his
devotion to safety and his untiring efforts to put safety
in the forefront of the industry.

INDIANAPOLIS
ISS REACHES OUTSTANDING SAFETY MILESTONE:
Jon Rieck (branch manager) and
Troy Rodimel (superintendent) of the Indianapolis ISS
branch with their 1,000,000 manhours certificate.

Three
PCI groups have achieved outstanding safety records
this year: they have exceeded 1,000,000 man-hours without
an OSHA recordable.
Kansas
City Interior, San Diego ISS and Indianapolis ISS have
all reached this milestone. "This is truly outstanding
safety performance," said Dale Haden, corporate
risk manager for PCG. "These branch managers and
their supervisory staff have done an excellent job in
directing this performance."
The San Diego Marine
branch, managed by Ernie Martinez, acknowledged that
the award was the result of outstanding team effort
from all their field supervisors. "Our supervisory
teams were willing to implement the branch's innovative
safety plan with such dedication that, on many occasions,
they changed their crews' and their own behavioral patterns
on a dime," Martinez said. "We would otherwise
never have achieved this goal. It is a proud moment
for our branch, and we are eager to get started on our
next million hours."
Similarly, the Kansas City Interior branch achieved
a safety milestone of one million work hours without
a recordable. They had their last recordable on September
3, 2004. "Safety achievements of this type can
only be accomplished through great teamwork and leadership,"
said Ed Loosemore, PCG regional safety specialist. .
The Indianapolis ISS branch also achieved the same
goal, reaching their 1,000,000 hours without a recordable
in early June of this year.

NWCB
(the Northwest Wall and Ceiling Bureau) announced that
PCI was awarded the NWCB Project of the Year Award for
Interior Construction for their construction efforts
at the Southwest Medical Center.
The Southwest Medical Center is located in Vancouver,
WA. PCI's work on this project included exterior work
(framing, sheathing, and weather barriers), interior
work (fireproofing framing, drywall, lead board, insulation,
finish, plaster, and acoustical ceilings) and special
architectural features which included a dramatic drywall
and acoustical S-curve lobby ceilings, and GFRG modular
wavy walls.
NWCB recognizes its member companies each year
for their contribution toward excellence in construction
in the Interior, Exterior, and Suspended Ceilings (Acoustical)
categories. The wall and ceiling projects are judged
on design, jobsite innovation and/or conditions, quality
of workmanship, use of materials and overall effect.
A formal recognition of the winners is held at the opening
session of NWCB's Annual Convention. This year, it was
held On May 10th at the Coeur d'Alene Golf and Spa Resort
in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. PCI's award was received by
Sonny O'Neal, general superintendent.
Dave Gass, who managed this project, said "This
was a challenging project based on an ultra-fast track
schedule, coupled with complex architectural design
and high-level finishes. It was completed over a 14-month
duration during which we successfully worked over 10,000+
days of on-the-job direct union labor with only two
first aids, no major injuries, and zero recordables.
Teamwork played a major role in the success of this
project; from the initial estimate through final execution
in the field, this was a total team effort."

CISCA
(Ceilings and Interior Systems Construction
Association) recently awarded an Excellence
in Construction Award for 2006 to PCI.
The
prestigious award was given for their outstanding
interior commercial construction of ceilings
in the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters just
outside Washington DC.
To
meet the Owner's vision for this project,
the design team incorporated the ceiling
system into the overall architectural theme.
The goal was to provide a unique look with
high STC ratings for office environments
as well as meet the "Green Building"
goals of the overall project by using wood,
plaster and metal ceiling products. These
elements would also complement the other
building materials used within the space,
such as wall and flooring products.
Construction Excellence Award winners --
the best of the best -- were presented and
recognized at CISCA's 2007 Convention in
early April in Orlando, Florida. |
